Back to basics

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! Spring is in full swing outside the patio door with a bunny coming to visit yesterday and clear blue skies above the lake. Mother Nature did give us a bit of a practical joke on Friday with a touch of snow that was here and gone. It was an amusing tip of the cap to some personal history of snow in April here.

What have we been up to this week? Serra is plugging along with her classes and getting prepared for the fall. Dorms have been selected, classes registered for, and work accommodations for the summer have been filed. Her dear yeasties will go to cold storage while she is away and there is only one more week of classes for the spring. She made it past the tough spot of calculus and has been enjoying My Little Pony episodes and Minecraft.

Amanda had a productive week on the job hunt. She had three calls and an interview. Two of the calls were okay, a lot of questions with them considering what was talked about is not the same information in the job posting. It makes them feel a bit awkward, especially when one of the calls was with the person that would be her supervisor and that company doesn't have any formal training for the position. The third call went well, and she has homework for them to complete. That company which is based in PA is also revamping their hiring process so it will be slow going. The interview went best of all. What was originally scheduled for only thirty minutes became an hour-long video chat with her resume and school being acknowledged in the first ten minutes. They also have a slow hiring process but is one of the top companies in the nation, you wait with them. So, we have lots of fingers and toes crossed for a panel interview with them later this week.

It was a busy week with teaching. Three classes happened this week with the finish of a sock class, the finish of a shawl class and the start of a hat class. There is still plenty of room in the summer classes for those local to the area and I need to start on samples for the fall. With all of that teaching, crafts were a bit slow. I spent some time on the lace shrug, pinned in another round on the hexie blanket and worked on some spinning.

The breakfast spin is still slowly progressing, and I have finished another color. This little turtle will get slid off and wound and plied before starting the next color in the gradient.

We also tried making bagels for the first time ever Saturday morning.

I need some serious work on my shaping before the next batch! Still, they are pretty tasty. Baking is one of those simple joys that helps bring me back to myself.

As for me, it was a brutal week. Constant stress over the last few months with not being able to relax came to a breaking point. I've spent the last few days simply trying to breathe and get my body to unlock its muscles. I have to remember that not everything or everyone gets to swim in the depths with me and all of that flotsam and jetsam needs to rise back to the surface. News of a family member's unexpected passing also had an effect. Today is truly all there is, you can hope and plan for the future but there is no guarantee you'll get to enjoy it. Take today and live it authentically with what is true for you deep down inside, regardless of how others perceive it.

This week! More of the same for Serra with all of her things. The patiently impatient waiting game for Amanda with the two fish on the line and homework for one of them. Me? Breathing, letting go, getting back to the simple things that bring me peace instead of fighting against this world. Do the houseplanty things, breathe, Love, let what doesn't matter rise to the surface to be swept away, and I'll be back next week :)
