Brain and body

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The sun is bright and shiny into my window with the promise of more heat to come this afternoon. I was hoping the bit of thunderstorms we had last night would last for a while, maybe they will be back this afternoon. This time of year also brings a memory from home as it is Palisade Peach Season!
What did we do this week? Amanda had another full week of surgeries to attend. One that was thought to be only a two-hour procedure turned into eight, making for a long Friday. She and two other students are hoping to get over to the orthopedic portion of the hospital to view more types of surgery. The hope is to see a knee or hip replacement or an Achilles repair like I had. Her rigorous studies at RPI have prepared her well as she is ahead of some of the current lessons, and she knows how to hold her own in groups, something a couple of the professors have yet to figure out about my headstrong daughter.
Serra had a topsy-turvy week with not feeling well at the beginning of it. A sore throat, massive exhaustion, and fever will make anyone worry. Strange thing is how her body fights infection. Most people will have a fever that peaks, breaks and then they are fine, not Serra. It takes her three rounds of building and breaking to finally be rid of a fever and has been that way since she was little. After that third fever break, she was right as rain and had a ton of energy! It was amazing to come home after the second day of a photo shoot to the housework she accomplished because she was feeling better and bored.
As I mentioned, work was busy with a two-day shoot for two of our publications. Next up will be receiving the images from the photographer and getting them to the designer for the layouts that are being created. This week will be pattern writing and knitting for me.
Crafts saw more weaving on the Gilmore and some knitting. I finished my Little Squirrel March socks.
I can't believe how much yarn I still have left from the set after knitting both a pair of mitts and pair of socks. Since I only like ankle socks, I will be able to get at least two pair for my sized feet from every colorway. Trick now is deciding what set to knit up next!
I also finished another skein of hexies for the Starflower blanket.
132 hexies are complete with another 5 skeins currently planned. My test piece that has already been blocked measures 6" x 7 1/2". Yes, I am making what I hope will be a huge blanket. Insta has been a wonderful source for joining methods and I have found two that I would like to test out.
As for me, the ankle is healing. I have finished week two of being allowed to walk in the boot, which is great, or would be if my mind would slow down to my body's pace. My brain is ready to GOOOOO and my body is still not up to speed. Serra got the rough end of my healing process because now is when I get fussy. I want to go and do all of the things and get moving and my body still wants and needs rest. I don't know how to slow down and relax or as Amanda calls it 'be lazy'. Maybe if I create timeline for my brain that plans things out and then only allow myself to think about the current week, I can get my different paces to match up.
Next week! More of the same for Amanda with surgeries and schoolwork. Serra has appointments for her passport and immunizations that need caught up before college and her friend gets back on Friday. Me? More PT, a couple of lessons, a class to teach, a tatting pattern to create and knitting to do. Breathe, stretch, soften, release, Love, slow down, stop being so hard on myself, and I'll be back next week :)
