Good Morning and Happy Sunday! Scotland is visiting outside the patio door with a misty fog. We've had moisture on various days this past week and it makes me glad. I was not ready for the blazing heat of summer and missing a proper spring. Now if only I could find some lilacs in bloom.
What did we do this week? It is the beginning of the end for Serra and Amanda, with the semester that is. Serra had her last week of classes and a Chem lab exam that she thinks she did good on despite only three hours of sleep the night before. I believe she has a regular day of classes Monday and then it's study time for finals. She is missing CO food and sent quite the list of things she wants to have or make over the summer months. Her sweater is growing! I realized after starting it that I would not have enough pink yarn for the full body of the sweater, so we added a design element.
A skein of blue for a stripe in the middle will bridge the gap to my last skein of pink.
Amanda finally got some validation with one of her professors and group projects. It will be interesting to see how her groupmates respond, if they do, to the email asking percentages of participation. I'm glad Amanda has taken screenshots of editing history on documents to have evidence. She also got to experience her first and only D-day on campus. It seems Rochester throws a spring festival called Dandelion Day at the end of classes. From what I saw on social media it is a massive carnival. One of her groupmates was attending with the plan to be inebriated all day. She was not amused and escaped the noise as quickly as she could. She finally has a time for her exit interview, and it is probably good that her group is last as I'm sure she will have plenty to say.
A busy week here with teaching Wednesday. Sock class has been a blast. I think there was more talking than knitting that night. I love being a part of the community there. Saturday was Local Yarn Shop day across the country and I popped into Loopy for a bit.
Makerwool dyed a special colorway for Loopy that I wanted to pick up. I love reds and can't wait to see how the self-striping yarn knits up. I couldn't resist the browns and greys, so they came home too. I'm curious about how a self-striping yarn for knitting would weave up. Would it follow a similar pattern? It might need to become an experiment. More time was spent spinning, doing kumihimo, blocking another round of hexies and weaving!
I finally got Susan tied on and started a simple twill pattern. This a bit of an experiment as I have never woven with this yarn before. It is 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon, or better known as my former Promise hand dyed base. There's lots of it so let's see what it does. One skein gave me 3 yards of warp and 180 ends. This is set at 12 ends per inch and I want to see how far one skein will go on weft.
As for me, it was a good week. It felt extremely long and last Sunday was a month ago! Does slowing down actually give you more time? It has certainly felt like it this week. With all of this extra time I'm getting back to a fitness program. I walked the lake every morning this week and plan to keep doing it. Consistent progress every day is what makes the best changes. I also followed the NFL draft this week. Massive feels for the Steelers first round pick. Why don't we have something like this for the sciences as kids come out of college? Companies evaluating graduates and bringing them in to work? Amanda would be Travis Hunter and her groupmates? Sanders all the way.
Next week! Lots of finishing for all of us. School for Serra, the master's degree for Amanda and projects for me. Breathe, smile, laugh, grow, Love, be patient for the future and I'll be back next week :)
