Riding the current

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! We turned the calendar to a new month last Monday and I think Mother Nature decided to take her foot off the heat pedal. I don't want to say Fall is here as that implies an overwhelming amount of pumpkin spice in every product imaginable. Instead, let's just say I am enjoying the cooler temperatures.

What have we been up to this week? Serra is settling into her classes. As usual there is always one class that loves to bake her noodle. This semester it is analytical chemistry. Thankfully she is not alone. She and fellow classmates have already set up study sessions to work together on it. One thing I love about her college is that she gets to take major specific courses as a sophomore. How do you know if you are truly going to like the subject if you don't get to experience it early enough? Crime scene analysis and legal systems are feeding her curiosity and confirming her choice. Proud of her for taking care of herself as well.

Amanda is still in the job hunt, and we are hoping the tide is shifting with the change in the calendar. July and August tend to be lower hiring months because so many people are on vacation during that time of year. We have seen this shift with three companies contacting her. Workshops with the workforce center next week will also provide more information in how to go about this process.

With two markets to prepare for Amanda and I looked through inventory yesterday to see what I currently have in stock. I need to get some more tatted earrings and bookmarks made for the October market. So, I spent part of Saturday measuring warp.

Five yards of 60/2 silk that Flynn will help me turn into bookmarks at 72 epi. I love weaving with tiny silk. Amanda and I also spent time on Saturday dyeing four tencel warps that will become scarves in time for the November market.

Serra's sweater is coming along, and she is happier with the new sleeve shape.

On to a long cuff that she will be able to have over her hand or fold back. Good thing I can read my knitting as I did not take notes along the way for the second sleeve!

As for me, you wouldn't think turning a page on a calendar would make this much of a difference. September was a bit of a reboot, and I feel better for it from the days of August. September isn't quite where I want it to be yet, but I do feel more capable of going with the flow rather than being a rock in the stream. Sometimes the harder you dig in, the more damage a situation can do to you. Riding the course and finding the moments to share can make all the difference in the journey.

Next week! Serra gets to dig into beer yeast DNA; Amanda gets to learn more about job hunting and helping me with crazy ideas. Me? Rolling with the current, creating fabulous pieces and doing all the things. Grow, breathe, share, expand, Love, find the magic moments, and I'll be back next week :)
