Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The skies are a wintery pastel outside the window today which doesn't quite meet up with the temperature. Yes, it is cooler but not as cold as it has been before at this time of year. I think people are ready for the cold as I saw several out yesterday in puffy coats and I was only in long sleeves. 55* is not cold yet people!
What did we do this past week? Amanda is still doing her best to keep the team on track with their project. It's interesting when this current professor is contradicting everything she learned about the process at RPI. This professor also ranks the teams according to his favorites which is not right. I have a feeling she is going to leave a scalding review at the end of the year. After the break she is going to get her resume cleaned up as companies start searching at the turn of the year.
Serra had a math quiz and a Chem test this past week that I hope went well. She and another friend finally got proactive in ending a toxic relationship with a student that was taking advantage of them emotionally. I hope the situation has improved this week.
Mine was a busy one with work, and a bit of self-care as my birthday was this past week. Lunch, cupcakes and a life change made for a full and emotional week. I did, as always, craft through it. Spinning, weaving and knitting all got attention. Lou is working on the Gallfrey colorway, I am into the blue towel of my set with Susan, and Serra's sweater is growing.
I am almost finished with the body. After that it will be picking up stitches for the sleeves. Raglan is one of my favorite styles as there is no seaming at the end.
I also popped into Loopy for the final color of the year from Little Squirrel Yarn.
Sarah swapped things up this time with making the large skein solid and the mini speckled. This is Cold Nights, Winter Lights. Even though I have done very little with my sets this year, I hope she continues making a monthly OOAK like this next year and I will be sure to not miss out on the first two months!
As for me it was a good week. I mentioned earlier that it was my birthday, and I am now 49. What does that mean? As Saladin in Kingdom of Heaven says when asked what Jerusalem was worth? "Nothing. Everything." The actual number and age means nothing. As for all of the shifts that are occurring that I thought would still be months off or not possible? Those are everything. Use whatever metaphor you like, a snake shedding its skin, the Doctor regenerating, the phoenix rising from the ashes, it doesn't matter. The puzzle pieces that are me are shifting and aligning into the next phase of the journey and I have to say it feels amazing.
Next week! The girls are ready for some time away from classes and time together. I hear they will be cooking several of their favorite dishes and I hope the weather between the two of them is not as frightening as the weathermen keep saying. I am thankful NOT be giving into the overwhelm of the mass hysteria know as Thanksgiving. I passed a woman at the grocery store yesterday that flat out said to me, "Why do we do this to ourselves?" I watched my mom for too many years searching for money and time to please everyone over one lousy meal. I'll express my gratitude every day instead of only on a government-mandated holiday. I am looking forward to a quiet and relaxing week. Breathe, smile, dream, share, Love, fill up the cup that is YOU, and I'll be back next week. :)
