Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The sun is high and there are no clouds in the sky outside the patio door today. The traffic on the lake is already high as I imagine it will be too hot later for anyone to enjoy it. I know I enjoy my early morning lake walks when it's cooler.
What did we do this week? Serra and her best friend had an amazing time at the Hozier concert last Sunday. An opening group, a two-hour set by him, and dealing with traffic made for a very late night and tired young lady when she got back Monday. They were supposed to go to a concert at the Aggie last night until Serra got to feeling rough. Fingers crossed it was only a sinus headache, and she is better today. Travel plans are set to get her back out to college next month.
Amanda's Long Island friends made it back to the coast yesterday. They did all of the touristy things, Casa Bonita, Pikes Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Gunter Toody's, and Buc ees. Some of them also learned that altitude sickness is a real thing. The humans got me into a swimsuit and down to the pool this week. Even with 50 spf sunscreen and only ninety minutes in the sun, I managed to change colors.
We found one of my favorite parts of summer this week, Palisades.

So yummy!
Crafts have been busy with getting started on Rapunzel, taking out Serra's sleeve on her sweater as it wasn't quite right, and teaching myself a new knitting technique.

We've had several requests at Loopy for Brioche knitting. It is a reversible technique that creates a very squishy fabric. Using two colors and knitting in the round is the easiest way to learn so that is what I did. After casting on three times and not getting it right I looked at it and had an Ah-ha moment! Once I figured it out, it turned out to be a lot of fun. It will be on the schedule as a class this fall, and I have an idea for a mitten pattern in it.
Speaking of yarn, it is that time of year again, the Hot August Knits Crawl is happening at seven localish shops this year. We tackled the south loop yesterday, and it is always dangerous.

Sarah and Dylan of Little Squirrel were at the Longmont stop and it is hard to resist their colors! I also found a luscious laceweight there that will become a massive Orenburg. Serra enjoyed the Farmer's Market that was also happening in Louisville. The Crawl runs through the 9th, and I am hoping to take on the north loop that day. The humans love car rides and being fed so I'm sure they will tag along.
As for me, it was a better week. I did a bit more relaxing that usual with not one but two movie nights! It is rare that I don't spend the evening crafting and to do it two nights in a row is unheard of. Mickey 17 wasn't quite what I was expecting and was still fun. Robert Pattinson has come a long way since his sparkly vampire days. The Substance was a mixed bag. I'm not one for gratuitous gore which was the last twenty minutes of the film. The message of the film was brilliant, and I would hope that would be the takeaway. Women internalize so much of the negativity they hear from the outside world, especially about their bodies and then take it out on themselves, at least I do and have my entire life. What worked in your twenties does not work in your forties, instead of forcing and fighting with yourself a whole new system that goes against all logic and previous learning has to be implemented. The film shows this in an extreme fashion and is also a commentary on society and how much of a woman's worth is related to her appearance. Not to mention, Demi Moore is amazing in it. As for the new system to learn? Consistency and Care. How many times have I been told to have patience and that Rome wasn't built in a day? Yeah, you get the picture.
Next week! Fingers crossed it is only a small sinus cold for Serra and that she recovers quickly. More job hunting for Amanda along with the baseball trade deadline she is following. Me? A busy one with work, craft and three classes to teach. Breathe, learn, grow, smile, Love, be kind to others, and yourself and I'll be back next week :)
