Tears in the rain

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The sun is either slow to wake up today or is hiding behind some clouds, not wanting to greet the day. It might have something to do with the raindrops I see on the patio. Maybe cooler temperatures are finally here to stay.

What did we do this week? Serra is turning into quite the busy bee on campus with adding a job to her plate. She is now a part of the Global Initiative department that promotes the college's study abroad program. It's ten hours a week, assisting at events and answering questions in the office and via email. I would wonder if it were too much if I didn't know how I am about being busy. What looks like too much to do for other people tends to be just right for us. She also baked a prune cake and has gotten some excellent sleep of late, which tells me she is right where she belongs.

Amanda is working on the job hunt. She had a workshop with the workforce center on resumes, and it was only mildly helpful as she is already doing the majority of things they recommend. I found a different job listing website that is more engineer based so I'm hoping there are some opportunities there. She had a blast watching Rizzo's retirement game and we've been enjoying movies in the evening. Believe it or not, I've been letting my hands have a break!

Even with letting my hands rest some evenings, I am still working on crafts. Serra's first sleeve is officially done, another pair of socks has been starting as part of a class, and Flynn is now strung up. Remember the tiny black warp?

It is now becoming bookmarks. That piece is about two inches wide and is 72 threads to the inch. I love twills and that is one pattern repeat.

Rapunzel also finished a pair of scarves.

This is tencel set at 30 threads to the inch. One is a twill pattern, and one is plain weave. I have two more warps similar to this measured out. Amanda and I also spent some time last Saturday doing some dyeing and I have four more warps that are ready to go. Lots of weaving on the horizon for the shows coming up.

As for me, it was a good week. I'm loving my new space more every day, and until last night sleep has been a wonderful thing. Awake for a few hours and possibly influenced by watching Blade Runner and Rutger Hauer's speech, old memories bubbled to the surface. Events that are surprisingly vivid for their measure of time that make up a significant part of me. Hopefully it's not greedy to want to make more of those memories in the future.

Next week! Lots of prune cake for Serra to eat. I hope her analytical chem exam went well. Getting the chip back on the shoulder for Amanda and showing these companies what they are missing. Me? A windshield to replace, class to teach and crafts to make. Breathe, grow, cherish, savor, Love, find joy in the moments and I'll be back next week :)
