Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The view is blue and foggy outside the patio with a touch of leftover rain in the air and on the sidewalks. It seems Halloween is not quite ready to let go. Today is also the time change, and according to my analog watch that I wear every day, I’m an hour behind. My phone says otherwise. I’m not too sure how I feel about 5 pm darkness tonight.
What were we up to this week? Amanda squeaked onto her plane Sunday evening to go to training in Wisconsin. She has spent the week with nine other employees learning about the different models of anesthesia machines. Some of this she has already gotten to do and see in the field, so she has had to be patient with the others that are truly brand new. One of them is barely three weeks into the job and this is his first training. Amanda makes me think of Kaylee from Firefly, specifically the episode Shindig where the character is explaining to all of these high society men about the changes in the spaceship engines. The group of them went out for dinner and drinks for Halloween so I’m sure Amanda is still sound asleep.
Serra had a long but good week. She is an amazing mimic and had Amanda and I rolling with laughter with her impressions of some of her professors. Her cells are growing well for culture lab, and lager yeast grows extremely slow. She has found a new favorite food of sardines in mustard sauce on pita chips or pretzels and had a great time trick-or-treating on campus with the besties. Considering they stayed up until three Saturday morning, I’m sure she’s still sacked out as well.
Crafts have been the usual knitting, weaving and spinning. I’m about halfway done with a project for work, and with a sample scarf for the next group of classes at The Loopy Ewe. The Blue Steel silk is slowly moving along on Rapunzel and Susan got dressed with some 8/2 tencel. Spinning saw the finish of a spindle spun skein of Australian Merino.
It is five ounces of laceweight happiness. I had to put my McMoran balance on top of my fridge to measure the grist on it! At 8000 yards per pound, I have about 2500 yards to make something yummy with. As for spinning in November, I’ll be joining the Peahen’s gratitude spindle spin with my Sleek Spincraft spindle and some lovely rolags from Fellview Fibres. It’s been a challenge to wait for today to start!
As for me, it was a solid week. Like Serra, some days definitely felt longer than others and in my own mind, I’m still not doing enough. Believe me, I’m working on it. October was a month, getting back to myself and making plans for more. Here’s hoping November can be more of that along with learning how to rest.
Next week! Amanda jets home to Jersey on Wednesday and will have a few days to settle back into the rhythms there. Serra is registered for spring classes and on her way to multiple minors simply because of the variety of classes she’s taken. We’ll see if she adds another class to her small 16 credit load for the spring. Me? A little busier than usual with time out for a shoot, a visit with my lovely bestie, and a lesson and class to teach on Friday. Breathe, center, relax, Love, take in the stillness, and I’ll be back next week :)
