Staying the course

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! There’s not a single cloud in the sky over the lake and the hillside leading up to it looks lush and green. I’m sure the day is going to get warmer as yesterday the temperatures were in the nineties! Too hot for early June in my opinion, so I’m glad they are forecasting things to be a little cooler next week. It’s hard to believe Sunday was only seven days ago!

What have we been up to this week? The pool is open here and the rush after the holiday has worn off. The higher temperatures helped warm it up and we went on Monday. Swimming is one of Serra’s favorite ways to burn off her zoomies and it was a good time. She is relaxing and enjoying time with her bestie so far this summer. Amanda is still hammering on the job hunt. She had two interviews Monday and is waiting to hear back on three opportunities. All of her interviews have gone great so it’s hard to understand why she hasn’t gotten one of them yet. She’ll break the 400 resume count this week which in my mind is crazy. We just have keep the faith and believe that a good one will come along and want her.

Crafts as usual were all over the place. Rapunzel is still getting dressed with the Blue Steel colorway. I’m making progress on Amanda’s knit sweater and Serra’s super long socks. Classes and lessons were fun this week with teaching a two at a time class, a lesson for two besties at similar skill levels, and a fixing mistakes class. This one is especially fun as it goes in all different directions. After working on how to pick up dropped stitches in both stockinette and garter stitch, I open it up to whatever kind of questions the students have. It makes for a fun interactive experience.

I spoiled myself with a bit of retail therapy this week as well. With Signature Needle Arts closing up shop, I went hunting for a new needle and found Brickhouse Fiber Arts. They are small company out of Georgia that are making hexagon-shaped needles with stainless steel cables and I think they are great. If you like metal needles and can’t stand the memory that never leaves circular cords, these are for you. The hexagon shape is also found to be easier to hold and more ergonomic so that means even more knitting!

One of my favorite fiber dyers is hanging it up and selling off her undyed fiber so I picked up a couple braids of Cashmere, Polwarth and silk blend to ply with two colorways I previously purchased.

Happy Fiber!

I have no idea what the now 20 ounces of fiber will become someday, but I know it will be soft!

Last but not least I did the dangerous thing of stopping at the bookstore. My dear lovely Rebekah has been devouring books lately and recommended some. I do not have her patience of waiting for things to become available at the library and tend to reread books constantly.

A stack of happy!

I’ve missed reading but have had a hard time getting back to it after Red and Blue. That one was and still is absolutely amazing. Maybe this and Tyger will get me going again. Especially considering the unread stack by my nightstand. Maybe it’s my unintentional practice of Tsundoku. They will all be read in the right time.

As for me, it was an interesting week. A few beautiful highs along with an unexpected low all mixed into the space of the everyday. In reality, I suppose that is exactly what life is. Recognizing and appreciating the bright shining moments while weathering the storms the low ones bring. Without both, we have no way of understanding each of them. And while some of the lows are more than I want to deal with, I do know that when the highs come, they will be tremendous. It’s simply a matter of staying the course during the in-betweens.

Next week! Staying the course and a couple of bits of fun are on the agenda. Along with enjoying the here and now, being present and grateful for this moment. Breathe, rest, dream big, Love, always believe that things will be better, and I’ll be back next week :)
