Hello October!

Good Morning and Happy Sunday! I am still trying to find my bearings this morning after an intense night of weird dreams and extremely deep sleep. I have no idea what brought it on. Maybe it’s Venus going retrograde in Scorpio that seems to be flooding my feed lately. The sun decided to come up as I slowly drug myself out of bed and is painting the sky in lovely pastel hues. I love how the mountains to the west reflect the light and create their own colors.

What did we do this week? Serra finally received her score back on her first Ecology exam: 100%! Currently she is carrying a 4.0 for the semester. I knew once she got past the ‘have to’ classes and got into the ‘want to’ classes that it would be amazing for her. The mammalian cell culture lab she thought didn’t start until mid-October actually got going this week. The professor’s logic behind the early start makes perfect sense as they will be culturing cells that need extra TLC and will not survive the fall and Thanksgiving breaks if the students are not there to take care of them. Lucky for the professor the class is made up of all his favorite nerds, Serra included, and the initial meetup was successful. Serra has another round of exams this week and an extra long weekend coming for fall break.

Amanda is doing great with driving in the NJ/NY area even if it takes longer than expected. She traveled out to Long Island for two days of on-site work this week and with the drive they turned into twelve hour days. Distance and time work very differently out there. She also got her first taste of NY Mexican food and was not impressed. Lucky for her the package I shipped Wednesday arrived on Saturday and of course what did it contain? A jar of green chile from Consuelo’s. The team had her installing brackets on machines and running calibrations and she’s having a blast. Just don’t tell the guys about her opinion on the street tacos.

Crafts time this week was spent weaving, spinning, and a bit of knitting. The Blue Steel colorway is coming along slowly. That’s what I get for using 60/2 silk. A 15-shuttle pass repeat nets 1/4” of woven cloth, it’s going to take a while. The spinning was for work so I can’t show it off for a while. It is for a weaving project, so Susan has come out to work on it. I finished Serra’s socks but have two delightful students at The Loopy Ewe that are working on a pair so of course I casted on another set to use for demonstration next week. Amanda’s sweater is also getting longer, and I was completely zoned out with it and sports the other night.

As for me it’s been a good week other than the Red Sox getting knocked out of the playoffs and there’s no more Peyton Tolle until next spring. I’m borrowing his example in finding the good and enjoying life daily. There’s always something to smile about even if I will never pitch an immaculate inning. September was a month of coming down off the high anxiety and stress of the previous two and I think I might finally be finding my groove again. Here’s to October doing exactly that.

Next week! No more Red Sox in the playoffs but the White Sox are still there and have the support of the Pope! Maybe it’s a spot of divine intervention. I hope they go all the way. More adventures in driving for Amanda and more yeast plates to culture for Serra. Me? More of the things I love and taking the time to enjoy them. Breathe, stretch, expand, Love, savor the moments and I’ll be back next week :)
