What a Hellride
Good Morning and Happy Sunday! The sky outside is streaked with clouds and there’s not much lake traffic yet. With the cooler temperature, I would have expected it to be busy. Hopefully it will stay cool most of the day.

What have we been up to for the last two weeks? With so much going on, it’s hard to remember! We got Amanda settled on the East Coast and two weeks ago it was Serra’s turn. She spent a lot of time packing, organizing and fending off the bestie because her thoughts had already turned to PA. We ordered way too much sushi for our traditional back to college dinner!
Maybe just one Rainbow Roll next time!
Thankfully, we had quiet and uneventful travel back to Allentown. A huge dinner at her favorite BBQ place, Grumpy’s, and an early evening spent watching the original The Evil Dead was exactly what we needed. Saturday saw reunions with friends, shopping and unpacking.

Another round of tearful goodbyes and about four hugs got me on my way to Philly for my solo flight back to CO. We were boarded, taxied, and ramping the engines up to take off…when suddenly the pilot stopped everything altogether. Turns out an air traffic controller sent a different plane ahead of us and messed everything up. With the extra time for weather in Denver, our pilot team was timed out and we needed a new pair. Thankfully they deboarded us and it was only four hours later that we were back on and headed out, this time with no difficulties.
It has been a bit of an adjustment here for me this week. To go from a full house to by myself in only six weeks was unexpected. It is very quiet. I guess that gives me more time to play with some new gifts!
Germany!
The Spin Off editor brought me a spindle from her family vacation in Germany earlier this summer.
New Zealand!
One of the stories coming up in the winter issue of Spin Off yielded a find that began life New Zealand and was crafted by Katie of Sleek Spincraft in Oregon. I’ll let the magazine tell the story better in a few months. I need to find some special fiber for the maiden spins for each of these beauties.
This week was training for Amanda in Wisconsin, and the first week of classes for Serra. She is very excited as she was able to move things around and get into another lab she wanted. I’ve spent the week catching up on work and resting. Something we all know if hard for me to do! Thing is the ten-hour nights of sleep I’ve gotten this weekend have been the most helpful.
As for me, wow what do I say? I am exhausted and ready to turn the page on August. The last six weeks have been one of the most intense Hellrides I’ve ever been on before. If you don’t know what that is, you need to read Zelanzy. I knew Amanda would get a job, I knew Serra was headed back to college, I simply didn’t expect all of it to happen is such a short time span and of course there was the usual day to day process of living and working to keep in order on top of it. 2026 has been a much more intense year than anticipated. I’m hoping the last four months can be a bit more restful, creative, and healing. Fingers crossed.
Next week! September is here. There’s work and more training trips for Amanda, classes, research, and work starting for Serra. Me? More sleep, the constant attempt of slowing down, being creative again, and getting back to myself. I’m looking forward to slow. Breathe, believe, trust, Love, every little things gonna be alright, and I’ll be back next week :)
